What is Sublimation?

A sublimation printer is a computer printer which employs a printing process that uses heat to transfer dye to various mediums. After you start the printing process, the sublimation ink will heat up to about 200°C. In doing so, the ink becomes gaslike, leaves the paper, and penetrates the ink into the surface of the aluminium card (which is already sublimation-ready). We recommend to print on white or light coloured substrates only (pastels work great too), because sublimation dyes are not opaque. Therefore, products need to be made of polyester fabrics or have to be coated with polyester, otherwise the sublimation process wouldn't work effectively. Yet, we recommend to only use textiles which are made of 100% breathable polyester. Suitable shirts and advertising articles can be found in our online shop.

Your advantages using sublimation technology
  • Easy handling
  • Stunning photo print quality
  • Ideal for personalised one-offs as well as small to medium sized production runs
  • Suitable for decoration of ceramic, fabric, aluminium, glass, wood, FRP etc.
  • No setup costs for films, screens, machine preparation
  • Printed image onto the surface of the shirt will not be noticeable on skin
  • Small investment to get started

General information about sublimation print

Scratch resistance

You can get over 1500 different articles from our house which already have the necessary coating. Together with the manufacturer, we constantly work on improvements and develop new coatings together. A lot of products already show a high resistance in the intended purpose. In General, two-component lacquer suit better than ordinary lacquers due to their high hardening and their scratch resistance.

UV resistance

The UV resistance of a sublimation printer depends not so much on the ink, but rather on the polyester coating of the material to be printed on. Still it is to note, that the sublimation print are not recommendable for every situation - e.g. for an outside company label. It always depends on how strong the insolation and irradiation is. Always do a pre-test to test the applicability.

Textiles qualifications made of plastic or polyester

We recommend to always perform a test pressure before you put new fibres into operation. Even with textiles made of 100% polyester or plastic, you can not generally assume that it is capable of sublimation. It is necessary to do a qualifying examination of the material before putting the order in. Some configurations absorb the sublimate ink only slowly, distort the print image, change colours yellowish or distort the colours itself.
